Kitchen Renovation– Frequently Asked Questions

Kitchen renovation permits may be required if plumbing, electrical, or structural changes are involved.

Yes, kitchen renovation on a budget is possible by refacing cabinets, updating fixtures, and keeping the existing layout.

A standard kitchen remodel takes 3 to 6 weeks of active on-site work. However, the planning and cabinet manufacturing phase happens beforehand. We strive to keep your sink or a temporary cooking station functional for as long as possible, but you should plan for at least 2 weeks of “no-cook” time during the middle of the project.

You don’t usually need a permit to swap out cabinets or flooring. However, you do need a permit if you are moving a sink to a different wall (plumbing), adding new circuits (electrical), or removing a wall to create an “open concept” layout (structural).

To keep costs down, try to keep your existing layout. Moving gas lines, water pipes, and drains is where costs escalate. You can also save by choosing high-quality laminate or butcher block instead of stone, or by “refacing” your existing cabinet boxes with new doors if the structure is still in good shape.
